France is synonymous with wine and is a great country to visit in the summer. France creates more wine every year than any other country. In this article I have identified what I consider to be some of the top areas to visit when travelling to France.
One of the most popular regions for a combination of sightseeing and some great wine tasting is Provence. The area boasts nice little medieval villages and was once a place of work for Vincent Van Gogh.
Get your white wine glass if you’re on your way to Alasace on the East side of France. The varieties of grapes used in this region and the same as are used in the German wines across the border.
Head on over to Bordeaux and experience one of the biggest selection of red wines in the country, you will need a red wine glass at your disposal. They do produce white wine in Bordeaux as well, which is famous for its sweetness. Bordeaux has a coast on the Atlantic and exports a lot of wine to other nations around the world.
You can travel to the Burgandy area if you want to sample both the red and white wines that the country has to offer both of which are produced on a large scale in the area. Burgandy itself is sometimes thought of as its own region and produces mainly red wine. Beaujolais Nouveau is the only wine that can be drank in the same year that it was made.
Champagne is arguably the most well known wine producing region of France and is also the coldest. Of course the region is most famous for its sparkling wine however still wine is still produced in this area as well. Use a Champagne glass to get the most from this wine.
The Loire Valley is a popular and beautiful tourist destination which also has some amazing wines produced along the river banks of the Loire River. The Upper Loire valley is produces the popular wine Sauvignon Blanc.
